Given the abundance of stone producers in the Trapani region of Sicily, it is natural that certain firms will look to distinguish them-selves by specializing in certain sectors of the industry. An example of this can be found in Jovino Marmi srl of Valderice, Trapani, which specializes in the production of tiles.
Jovino Marmi produces tiles in standard formats of 12 x 12, 16 x 16, 18 x 18 and 24 x 24 inches, and it has a complete tile line as well as a line for automatically applying resin to the tiles for reinforcement as needed.
While some of the stone is from local quarries, the company also brings in raw material from other countries around the Mediterranean, including Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia.
The company has also made use of its broken tiles, which are made into mosaics at a factory in Naples. This also provides an added service for clients who want to design using the same materials for the tiles and mosaics.
Approximately 80% of Jovino Marmi's exports are shipped to the U.S. market, with much of the balance going to the Far East.
