The MIA/Stone World education session “Safety & OSHA Compliance,” is now set for June 4, 2009 in Cleveland, OH. In addition to watching a mock voluntary OSHA inspection take place, attendees will learn about creating a safe work environment and practicing the basic precepts of safety, both in the shop and on the jobsite.
Taking advantage of this one-day seminar, presented in conjunction with OSHA, allows attendees to enhance their stone shop or warehouse safety program and safety awareness. This seminar includes a focus on:
• Silica Exposure in the Stone Industry
• Slab Handling and Other Safety Hazards in the Shop
• Free Consultation Services Available for Employers
• Developing a Safety & Health Program
• How to Prepare for an OSHA Inspection (includes mock OSHA inspection in a stone fabrication shop)
The class will be instructed by OSHA officials with facilitation by the MIA staff, and the target audience is business owners, fabricators and others who desire to network with fabricators. Comments from past attendees included: “It was great to hear directly from OSHA officials in a neutral setting,” “I learned that working with OSHA’s voluntary program has so many advantages to my shop and could result in some savings with my insurance premiums” and “The mock inspection was a nice component of the seminar.”
The class will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Attendees who are unable to attend the full-day event can attend the Industry Briefing (free of charge), where they can participate in the discussions, network with attending suppliers and attend the reception. Topics will include radon in granite, the industry check-off program, sustainability, accreditation and much more. The Industry Briefing runs from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.
The event will be held at the Sheraton Cleveland Airport Hotel, and registration costs are $99 per person. After two paid registrations of $99 each, the third registration is free. For more information or to register, visitwww.stoneworld.com/miaeducation.
