Obituary: Stone industry veteran, Robert J. Zavagno, Sr.
Robert J. Zavagno, Sr., passed away peacefully on March 6, 2010 at the age of 86. He was the President of The Cleveland Marble Mosaic Co., with offices in Cleveland, OH, Chicago, IL, and Los Angeles, CA. He was also President of The National Terrazzo Mosaic Association, President of The Marble Institute of America and President of The Building Stone Institute. He was husband of Lorraine M. (nee Ameln); father of Dr. Pamela Beach-Reber (Robert) of St. Louis, MO, Deborah Zola (Robert), of Wilmington, DE., Denise Zavagno-Skibinski (Bernard) of Arlington, VA, Nancy Vitrano (Mitchell) and Robert J. Jr. (Angela); dear grandfather of 18; great-grandfather of 11; brother of The Honorable Judge Walter Savage (Helen, deceased) and Raymond Zavagno (deceased) (June). A graduate of Rhodes High School, he attended the University of Connecticut and the Citadel. A U.S. Veteran of World War II, Airways Communications Specialist in the Army Air Corp., he served in The China-India-Burma Campaign.
