The competition for the German Natural Stone Award 2011 focuses on natural stone as an exemplary building material in terms of its consideration of the environment, sustainability and energy efficiency. The award is presented to building concepts in Europe that represent examples of high architectural quality, technically innovative applications and cost-effective construction using natural stone. The award is for the exemplary design and technically modern construction of projects in Europe, in which mainly natural stone from Europe is used - with the work performed by natural stone contractors.

The German Natural Stone Award 2011 is presented by the Deutscher Naturwerkstein-Verband (DNV - German Natural Stone Association) in cooperation with the architects association, Bund Deutscher Architekten (BDA).

The German Natural Stone Award 2011 includes prize money of nearly $42,000 (30,000 euro), and it was presented for the first time in 1981.

One or more projects completed after January 1, 2005 can be entered for the award. Projects already presented can be entered again if they have not previously received an award. Admission is open to architects, interior designers and landscape architects who are the intellectual creators and planners of buildings completed in Europe.

An article on the competition and award winners will be published in the Baumeister magazine for architecture and in a special issue. This can be obtained via the Deutscher Naturwerkstein-Verband (DNV), Würzburg.

The winners will receive their awards at a presentation ceremony, which will take place at the international natural stone exhibition Stone+tec 2011 in Nürnberg on June 22, 2011. The competition papers can be requested from Deutscher Naturwerkstein-Verband at info@natursteinverband.de or www.natursteinverband.de, and all entry forms must be sent to the following address by January 12, 2011:
