Cactus Stone educates seventh graders about stone from around the world
PHOENIX, AZ -- Recently, Cactus Stone of Phoenix, AZ, hosted 50 seventh-grade students and five staff members from the Phoenix Country Day School at its Stone Gallery. Nearing the completion of a semester of study in geology, the students' teacher, Jerry Cook, thought an up-close look at many different stone types and colors would be fitting. The field trip was arranged by Cook and Kirk Butler, owner of Cactus Stone. Cook made several visits to Cactus Stone in the weeks preceding the field trip to prepare a worksheet for each student to complete during their tour. To the sheer delight of the students, most of the stone formations they had been studying could be seen in real life. "Going from a picture in a text book to seeing and feeling the actual stone was like magic for them," said Butler. "We appreciate the opportunity to assist in the teaching of today's youth."
