MIA+BSI: The Natural Stone Institute recently released a safety training resource, “Basics of Natural Stone Handling: The Fall Shadow,” which has been added to the Natural Stone University. This eight-minute video highlights several stone handling scenarios where the fall shadow becomes an important factor for personnel safety. The video includes four learning modules: understanding the importance of stone’s physical properties: size, weight, and center of gravity, as well as weaknesses, fissures, and inherent flaws; recognizing how the fall shadow changes in a number of scenarios in your facility; identifying situations where your customers could be impacted by the fall shadow; and understanding that there is no place for complacency in the stone industry.
“This video has the potential to save the life of not just your employees, but customers as well,” said Jon Lancto, 2017 MIA president. “The courses offered on the Natural Stone University can be tracked to ensure your employees have completed and comprehended the content provided.”
