This year at The International Surface Event in Las Vegas, NV, an award was presented to GranQuartz from Zoller to celebrate the fact that in the past two years, GranQuartz has brought more than 100 of the Zoller machines into the market.
GranQuartz recently moved one of its stores from its previous Chicago location to a 35,000-square-foot space in Elk Grove Village, IL. This new facility is a little over a mile from its former site where it had been for more than 15 years and it is approximately three-and-a-half times larger.
Stone World was started by Mike and Stephanie Lench in November 1984. At that time, GranQuartz was busily introducing machinery and equipment for the stone industry to include large diameter (11-6 foot) block saws, automatic abrasive line polishers, edge polishers, etc.
This year, Stone World celebrates its 35th anniversary. And while the magazine itself has evolved through the decades, the stone industry at large has also experienced change and growth, as well as some hardships over time.
I received an email from a long-time industry member last week. He and his family had to be rescued by boat during Hurricane Harvey, and are now beginning the rebuilding process. Like so many in the Houston area, he didn’t have flood insurance.
