The International Surface Event is set to return to the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas, NV, in June and a revamped educational program will provide learning opportunities, but in a safe way to keep attendees healthy.
The Natural Stone Institute, in partnership with Stone World, held one of its regularly scheduled virtual Stone Summits on April 14, 2021. The topic of quartzite proved to be a “hot” issue among fabricators, as it drew record-breaking numbers of attendees.

Let’s talk compensation. It has been well documented that the amount of someone’s paycheck is not the #1 driver for their professional satisfaction. The Natural Stone Institute now has a new vehicle to honor and recognize industry friends while also giving back to the stone industry. The Natural Stone Foundation is a 501(c)3 organization that serves as the philanthropic arm of the association and works to further strengthen its commitment to providing relevant education and support for critical initiatives.
In recent days we have seen the continued spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) around the world and here in the U.S. as well. With the increased availability of testing, we can expect that confirmed cases of COVID-19 will continue to grow. Minimizing travel and group events is one tactic to slow the spread of the virus and protect those with weak immune systems.

In 2011, the Stone Fabricators Alliance (SFA) began taking a delegation of its members to various regions of Italy to learn more about all aspects of stone production. The annual trip, which welcomed 18 fabricators from all over the U.S. and Canada (and myself) this year, took place from May 3 to 11.
